The Lyra childcare is located in the Schaerbeek municipality of Brussels. The site itself has a triangular form, squeezed between parking lots and fenced gardens which gives it the feel of an unwanted left-over space.
To counteract this initial condition, the new building is characterized by a fluid form that mediates between different areas of the site, creating a meeting point and naturally guiding visitors to the entrance.
Furthermore, the volume is topped by pitched roofs that refers to the archetype of a house representing warmth, comfort and protection as well as encouraging a playful learning atmosphere.
On a technical level Lyra has a wooden structure, realizing zero emission standards, thus making it a prime example for a sustainable daycare building of the future.
