The kindergarten and primary school in Tongeren are characterized by a distinct circular volumetry that derives from changing pedagogical approaches fostering a lively education for children.
Along its path from toddler to adolescent, following the circle of life, a kid experiences different wishes and needs. In this regard the building was primarily conceive as a united circular whole, while featuring two successive educational areas.
At first the youngest kids experience the protected environment of a circular layout promoting a feeling of unity.
Later, as the children gradually come of age, they transition towards an extended rectangular volume connected to a more adventurous outdoor space preparing them for a world, they will soon engage with as young adults.
